El Decamerón

Written between 1349 and 1351, it is a collection of one hundred stories of varied origins where the author shows his unparalleled skill as a narrator, psychological insight, accurate satirical brushstroke and magnificent description of the customs of that time. The stories are told by a group of ten young people who retire to the outskirts of Florence to protect themselves from the contagion of the plague that devastated the city; There, for ten days, each one of them has to manage a day and all its activities; Among these, the meetings where, to pass the time, those present have to tell a story stand out especially. The themes are very varied, licentious ones abound, but sentimental, tragic and moralizing stories are also told.
